DRAFT — pending counsel review
This document is a complete working draft written by the product team. It has not been reviewed by a qualified lawyer, it is not yet in force, and it is published here so it can be reviewed in context. Do not rely on it. Every bracketed value is a fact the operator must supply before this page can take effect; they are all listed at the foot of the page.
Cancel from the billing portal at any time, keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for, and get a full refund of a first charge within the refund window. Downgrading and failed payments never delete your saved searches, alerts or balances.
Section 1
What this policy covers
This policy takes effect on [Effective date], forms part of the terms of service, and applies to subscriptions to the Pro and Elite plans. The Free plan is never charged for, so nothing here applies to it.
Section 2
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from the billing portal in your account. There is no cancellation form, no retention flow designed to slow you down, and no requirement to contact support first.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep the plan you paid for until the end of the period you have already paid for, and it then reverts to the Free plan — the subscription is not cut short on the day you cancel.
Section 3
When we refund
We refund in these cases:
- Within the refund window. A first subscription charge is refunded in full if you ask within [Refund window] of the charge, whether or not you used the service. Ask at support@[domain].
- Charged in error. A duplicate charge, a charge after a valid cancellation, or a charge on the wrong plan is refunded in full as soon as we confirm it.
- We terminate without fault on your part. If we end your subscription for a reason that is not a breach by you, we refund the unused portion of the period.
- Sustained failure of the service. If the service is substantially unavailable for a prolonged period within a billing period, we refund or credit that period on request.
Refunds are returned to the original payment method through Stripe. Timing after that is the card issuer’s, not ours.
Section 4
When we do not refund
- Search budget you used. Live searches consume real upstream capacity, so a period in which you searched heavily is not refundable outside the refund window.
- Renewal periods that have already elapsed, where the service was working and available.
- Dissatisfaction with what the data showed. Finding no award availability is a correct answer, not a service failure — we sell searching capacity, not seats.
- A program becoming unavailable to us, where the coverage page told you its status before you subscribed. If a program you were relying on becomes unavailable after you subscribed, contact us: that is a case we look at individually.
- Termination for a breach of the acceptable use policy that is your fault.
Section 5
Changing plan mid-period
Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated by Stripe against the remainder of the period. Downgrades take effect at the next renewal, so you keep the higher limits you paid for until then.
A downgrade never deletes your saved searches, alerts or balances. Anything above the new plan’s limits becomes read-only — visible, exportable and deletable, but not runnable — until you are back under the limit or upgrade again.
Section 6
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it over a short period and we email you. During that time your plan continues in a grace state so a temporary card problem does not interrupt an alert you were relying on.
If payment still has not succeeded when the grace period ends, the account reverts to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted; anything above the Free limits becomes read-only, and paying restores it.
Section 7
Your statutory rights
If you are a consumer, you may have a statutory right to cancel a digital-services contract within a set period, and that right is not affected by anything in this policy. Where local law gives you a longer cancellation period or a stronger refund right than the one above, the law applies.
Where you asked us to start providing the service immediately, some jurisdictions allow us to charge for what you actually used before you cancelled. We will always tell you the figure and how it was calculated before deducting it.
Section 8
How to ask for a refund
Email support@[domain] from the address on the account with the invoice reference and what happened. We will answer with a decision and a reason, not a form response, and if we decline we will tell you why in terms you can check against this policy.
Facts the operator must supply before this document takes effect
3 bracketed values appear in this document. Each one is a fact, not a missing clause — the wording around it is complete.
- [Effective date]
- The date this version of the document takes effect. Set it when counsel signs off, not before.
- [Refund window]
- The period during which a subscription charge can be refunded, and any conditions that apply.
- support@[domain]
- Monitored mailbox for customer support. Must be answerable within whatever response time the document promises.
